Enjoy the Game tells the story of Watford's rise through the divisions in the late 1970s and early 1980s. I wrote it in 2010 after spending the best part of a year interviewing more or less everyone who played a part in taking the club to runners-up in the First Division, into European competition and to the FA Cup final. In total, there are more than 40 interviews and the Watford Legends website has been publishing the transcripts. Some of them are long reads but together they provided the base and the detail for the book.
The title of the book was inspired by the phrase Enjoy the Game, which appeared on the front cover of the matchday programme in the early 1980s. One of Gold & Black's T-shirts revises the message in the correct font, which is Souvenir, for any typography enthusiasts.
